Engaging Reception and Year 1 Programs in Mathematics and English | Alpha Omega Academy

RECEPTION AND YEAR 1

At Alpha Omega, our Reception and Year 1 programs prioritise Mathematics and English, two subjects that provide essential foundations for success across the National Curriculum. Our expert teachers incorporate Science into the lessons during the two-hour classes held once a week, allowing children to explore their curiosity and develop their skills.

We believe that fluency in mathematics and the English language is a crucial factor in children's success, and we continually work to improve their knowledge and confidence from an early age. With a focus on quality education and personalised attention, our programs strive to provide an engaging and supportive learning environment for all our students.

RECEPTION AND YEAR 1 MATHEMATICS

Alpha Omega Reception and Year 1 Mathematics Programme has a clear vision - to equip children with a solid foundation in math that they can build on. From number and place value to measurements, we teach our students using a holistic approach. Our goal is to develop their mental and written arithmetic skills, which is why we discourage the use of calculators. The National Curriculum also supports this notion, suggesting that calculators should only be introduced in key stage 2, once a strong foundation in arithmetic is established. With our programme, your child will not only excel in math but also gain confidence in their problem-solving abilities.

RECEPTION AND YEAR 1 ENGLISH WITH SCIENCE

At Alpha Omega Academy, our Reception and Year 1 English Programme focuses on teaching children the essential skills of word reading, comprehension, and writing. Our aim is to develop a love for reading and the ability to express themselves effectively in writing. Our programme emphasises phonics, accurate reading, and clear understanding of text.

We encourage children to participate in discussions, share their ideas, and improve their vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation. We also incorporate science-based reading materials to enhance their knowledge in science. With our programme, children can develop a strong foundation in English and science while enjoying the learning process.
